For 40 years, preschoolers have learned about letters, numbers, songs and different cultures from their friends Big Bird, Kermit the Frog and Oscar the Grouch on "Sesame Street."

Now, episodes from all 40 seasons of the revolutionary children's educational program, from 1969 through 2009, plus fascinating behind-the-scenes footage, are available in a two-DVD set, along with a limited edition book celebrating the show so many have grown up watching.

Sort of like a book version of "Pop-Up Video," the DVD-sized book has lots of little colorful blurbs strewn across pages filled with pictures of Sesame Street, then and now, including photos of all three actors who have played Gordon, shots from the original set, the sheet music to the theme song and a montage of Mr. Hooper, the general store owner who died in 1982.

Fun trivia from the book:

  • The first Kermit was built from puppeteer Jim (Henson)'s mother's green coat.
  • Before "Sesame Street," Bob McGrath, one of only three original cast members still working on the show, was a pop superstar in Japan.
  • Sesame Street has always had a live show band with seven musicians.
  • Snuffy is stored hanging from the ceiling at the studio in Queens, N.Y.

The DVD and book set would make a great addition to any family's DVD collection.
