Camp Recipes Kids Can Make
(with a little help from an adult)

by Diana Perry

Buttery Corn on Cob
Smear butter on the cob, sprinkle with a little salt and pepper if you like. Wrap it in aluminum foil and twist tight both ends. Have an adult put it on the grill for 5 minutes and turn it over for 5 more.

Pigs in a Blanket
Have an adult open a can of biscuits. With clean hands, flatten out each biscuit. If you’re allowed to use a plastic knife, cut 5 hot dogs in half and place in the center of each biscuit. You can put mustard on the biscuits first if you like. Have an adult place them on foil over the grill and cook until browned on the bottom, turn them over and cook until browned again.

Camper’s Grilled Cheese
Take 2 pieces of bread, put ketchup on 1 slice and 2 pieces of cheese on the other. Have and adult put both pieces of bread together and place it on the grill until browned. Turn over and cook until that side is browned.

S’mores
Break off a square of a chocolate bar and put it on a graham cracker. Make enough to divide by 2. Have an adult put the graham crackers on foil over the grill until the chocolate melts. Put a marshmallow on the end of a stick an adult has sharpened for you and hold it over the grill or fire until it’s toasted. Have an adult help to put the marshmallow on one graham cracker and put a second graham cracker on top and squish into a cookie sandwich. Keep toasting the marshmallows until you have enough for all the graham crackers. Allow them to cool for 1 minute before eating.

Crispy Rice Treats
These are also easy to make. Have an adult put 1/2 cup water, 1 bag of marshmallows and, if you like, chocolate or butterscotch chips into a pot and melt it over the grill. When it’s melted, you can pour in enough crispy rice so that you can stir until all is sticky. Have an adult pour this into a pan and let cool. In about 20 minutes, you can cut this into squares with a plastic knife and eat them up.

Cinnamon Crispies
Have an adult open a can or jar of applesauce. Pour it into a bowl and add a little cinnamon and sugar (not too much). Stir it up and spoon it onto each plate in the middle. Put tortilla chips around it and dip the chips into the applesauce ... tasty and healthy!

Breakfast
Sweet Biscuits
Have an adult open a can of biscuits. Flatten each one out (wash hands first). Smear a little butter on each one and top with a little sugar and cinnamon. Have an adult bake on foil over the grill for you. If the top doesn’t cook right, you can turn it over for the last few minutes. You can also push in raisins before cooking.

Breakfast Egg Bakes
First, wash your hands and dip your fingers into butter. Smear the butter all over the wells of a large muffin tin. Then, in a bowl, break 2 eggs for every person. Add things you all like, such as bacon bits; pre-cut cooked sausage; pre-diced onions, tomatoes or green peppers; shredded cheese; or even frozen shredded hash browns.
Mix everything together well and pour or spoon equally into the wells and give to an adult to cover tight with aluminum foil and bake over the heat for 30 minutes until done.

Fruit Salad
Have an adult open cans of fruit. Pour them into a bowl and with a plastic fork, cut up bananas. Add raisins and mix everything up. Spoon into dishes and enjoy!
